| Walk Name | (Walk fully booked) Bretton Clough first Foolow Lead later? |
| Description | This walk is inspired by the first taster walk which took place on 23 September 2007 by those who established S40WG as an official Ramblers group shortly thereafter. Starting from the plague village of Eyam we steeply ascend and cross Eyam Moor before descending into Bretton Clough. After climbing again we pass the Barrel Inn before walking along Hucklow Edge. We return to Eyam through the villages of Great Hucklow and Foolow. On a good day we should get some spectacular views! Historical mining activity is much in evidence as we proceed! Eyam - Bretton Clough - Barrel Inn - Great Hucklow - Foolow - Eyam A longer more challenging route with a lot more ascent than my August Eyam walk in a similar area. A couple of steep ascents and descents but worth it for the views. The ground can be rough, muddy and slippery in places, particularly if wet. Paths may be overgrown with bracken or other vegetation, particularly in Bretton Clough. Whilst the walk affords fine views, the edges and moors can be exposed so please wear/carry suitable clothing and footwear for all conditions. Note: Route may vary depending on weather conditions. After this, the 17th+ walk I have led in 2017, I am taking a rest from leading walks for the group but I will continue to be available for help or support if you fancy volunteering to lead one. Please just get in touch or see me on a walk. |
