| Description |
Old Woman from Doctors Gate Culvert, follow Doctors Gate path then 1st scramble up Ashton Clough to James's Thorn then down Wigan Clough to Yellowslacks Brook, then follow the brook up for the 2nd scramble. Then strike north to pick up the Pennine Way at Wildboar Grain, back to Hern Stones, Higher Shelf Stones and Crooked Clough back to Old Woman. |

There are 2 scrambles on this route both grade 1, the easiest, and one steep descent. There are alternative routes for the 2 scrambles for those who don't want to scramble. Exact route of the scrambles may vary due to the weather and water conditions on the day. Not a long route but some good ascents and a route which covers some parts not usually walked. There is the site of an aircraft wreck in Ashton Clough, a USAF Dakota that crashed in 1945.
